Ever since Cable Internet providers started putting on caps for people's upload/download rates, there have been people who wish they could remove said restrictions. And according to this article by Kevin Poulsen, it has been done.
The kit can be found here, and it allows you to load new firmware onto SURFBoard cable modems. The new firmware unlocks a great range of capabilities and the hacking group is looking to add some new features like music streaming, NAT firewall support... all very cool things.
Sadly deploying this kinda of software/firmware to your cable modem breaks your TOS with your cable internet provider, user be warned. Just for the record I use DSL :)
