Google has started a new service called Orkut. From their website comes the following description:
Orkut is an online trusted community web site designed for friends. The main goal of our service is to make the social life of yourself and your friends more active and stimulating. The community site allows friends to virtually come together, find common interests, share relevant information, and organize social events.It is also being said (slashdot) that in Finnish, the word "orkut" is the plural form of the slang word for orgasm, I'm not sure if the kind folks at Google knew that ahead of time, I'm sure they did.
Hmmm... a secret society of geeks. I'd love to join and contribute/share ideas, but Orkut membership is by invitation only. Currently there are only 12,000 members, and there is no mention on what is required to invite a person into the fold.
Maybe one day I'll get an invitation.
